Columbia Bank is pleased to announce the appointment of John G. Shalhoub as 1st Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer, effective October 27, 2025. In this role, Shalhoub will report directly to Thomas J. Kemly, President and Chief Executive Officer, and oversee all aspects of the Bank’s Human Resources strategy and operations.

Shalhoub is a seasoned global HR executive with more than two decades of experience across leading financial institutions. He most recently served at Aflac Global Investments, where he held multiple senior leadership positions including Divisional Head of Human Resources, Chief of Staff, and Interim Chief Operating Officer. During his tenure, he played an integral role in developing and executing HR strategies that supported Aflac’s $120 billion investment platform and fostered a collaborative, high-performance culture across U.S. and international teams.
Earlier in his career, Shalhoub held senior human resources positions at Deutsche Bank, Zurich Capital Markets, and Merrill Lynch, where he partnered with executive leadership to design and implement transformative talent, compensation, and organizational initiatives across global business lines.
Shalhoub earned a Bachelor of Science in Management from Fairfield University and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Dedicated to community service, he currently serves as Vice President of the Board of Trustees for the Banyan School, is a member of the Parents Leadership Council at Fairfield University, and volunteers as an Assistant Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America in Chatham, NJ, where he resides with his wife and three children.
