Columbia Bank is proud to announce a historic milestone in its commitment to affordable housing: ten projects sponsored by the Bank have been awarded funding through the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York’s (FHLBNY) August 2025 Affordable Housing Program (AHP). The subsidy awarded to submitted projects totals $6,730,500, supporting the development and rehabilitation of 190 housing units across New Jersey.

This funding effort highlights the Bank’s strategic focus on housing stability, veteran support, senior living, and critical home repairs, all essential components of our communities. New Jersey affordable housing projects sponsored by Columbia Bank include:

  1. Owner-Occupied Home Repairs by HOC: Heart of Camden Inc. (Camden)
  2. Cranford Supportive Housing: Avidd Community Services of NJ, Inc. (Cranford)
  3. Owner-Occupied Rehab in Paterson, NJ: Rebuilding Together North Jersey (Oakland)
  4. Paterson Habitat for Humanity Critical Repair Program: Habitat for Humanity of Paterson, Inc. (Paterson)
  5. Carton Street Senior Housing: Bergen County’s United Way/Madeline Housing Partners, LLC (Rumson)
  6. West River Affordable Family Housing: Bergen County’s United Way/Madeline Housing Partners, LLC (Rumson)
  7. Stratford Affordable Homes: Greater Newark Housing Partnership, Inc. (Stratford)
  8. Housing Plus Aging in Place: Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity (Toms River)
  9. American Legion Veterans Housing: Westfield NJ Veterans Organization (Westfield)
  10. Resolution Owner-Occupied Homeowner Repair Program: Financial Wellness Institute Inc. (Westville)

“We are grateful to the agencies and nonprofits whose grants and programs make affordable housing possible, and proud of the role banks play in bridging those resources with community needs,” said Thomas J. Kemly, President and CEO of Columbia Bank. “Through the projects we’ve sponsored, 190 safe and affordable homes will soon be available for New Jersey residents, showcasing the power of strong partnerships to address our state’s housing shortage.”

This bold commitment comes on the heels of FHLBNY’s record-breaking August 25, 2025, award round, in which $86.3 million was distributed across 75 affordable housing initiatives. The subsidies will support nearly 5,000 new or preserved units, including 3,628 units for very low-income households, 4,637 rental units, and 339 homeownership opportunities throughout the country. The funding that the FHLBNY awards through programs like the AHP is taken directly from the earnings it generates from executing on its foundational liquidity mission.

“The success of the FHLBNY’s Affordable Housing Program is driven by our members, the local lenders that know the needs of the communities they serve and partner with us to bring funding to help meet these needs,” said Randolph C. Snook, president and CEO of the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York. “We congratulate Columbia Bank for this milestone achievement, and we are proud to stand alongside Columbia Bank and our housing partners on these 10 grants that will support the critical work of creating safe and affordable housing.”
