Columbia Bank is pleased to welcome Robert Maichin as 1st Senior Vice President, Head of Commercial Banking, New York. In this role, Robert will lead Commercial & Industrial and Middle Market Lending across Columbia Bank’s growing New York footprint. This includes Staten Island and Brooklyn, which are expected to become part of Columbia Bank’s market through the pending acquisition of Northfield Bank. He will focus on accelerating commercial loan growth, strengthening Columbia Bank’s lending presence, expanding its team of relationship-focused commercial banking professionals, and delivering financial solutions that support the growth and long-term needs of businesses across the region.

Maichin brings more than 35 years of commercial banking experience to Columbia Bank, having held senior leadership roles at Dime Commercial Bank, Bank Leumi USA, J.P. Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo. Throughout his career, he has built and led middle market, commercial and industrial (C&I), healthcare, asset-based lending, and specialty finance businesses across the New York metropolitan area. Known for developing high-performing banking teams, Maichin has helped expand commercial banking operations, launch specialized lending verticals, and deliver strategic financing solutions for middle market and corporate clients.
Maichin earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Oswego. He is actively involved in community organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York’s Accountants & Bankers Committee, and has previously served with Project Sunshine and the Long Island City Partnership.
